Accept a Patrick Leahy Bulletproof Vest Partnership Grant Award from the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs in the amount of $1,095.64; and
Amend the Fiscal Year 2023/24 Operating Budget to allocate and appropriate the grant funds.

BACKGROUND
The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) sets forth an annual grant program designed to assist police departments in the procurement of state-of-the-art bulletproof vests to be worn by police officers. The program was authorized in 1999 to provide critical resources for state and local governments and their employees. The Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance administers the program. The program contributes 50% of the cost of bulletproof vests for peace officers employed by eligible applicant agencies. The funding and eligibility criteria vary from year to year.
The DOJ, Office of Justice Programs, and Bureau of Justice Assistance have awarded the Murrieta Police Department a bulletproof vest program grant for $1,095.64. The grant will reimburse the City of Murrieta 50% of the cost for each ballistic vest purchased between April 1, 2023, and March 31, 2024, up to the total amount awarded to the City of Murrieta.
