Accept a State of California Office of Traffic Safety Program Grant award in the amount of $120,000;

Amend the Fiscal Year 2025/26 Operating Budget to allocate and appropriate the $120,000, in grant funds and carry over any unused grant budget to Fiscal Year 2026/27; and

Authorize the City Manager, and/or their designee, to execute all necessary documents and take actions required to accept, implement, and administer the grant, including ratification of the designees' execution of the grant agreement.

PRIOR ACTION/VOTE
On June 3, 2025, the City Council acting as the Board of Directors of the Murrieta Fire District approved Resolution MFD25-225, adopting the Fire District Operating Budget for Fiscal Year 2025/26 (Vote 5-0).

DISCUSSION
On October 8, 2025, Murrieta Fire & Rescue (MFR) was awarded a $120,000, traffic safety grant from the State of California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), funded by the U.S Department of Transportation. The grant performance period began on October 1, 2025, and will continue through September 30, 2026.

This grant will be used to fund the replacement of MFR's current auto-extrication equipment, which has become outdated due to modern vehicle configurations. The new tools will enhance MFR's ability to perform rescues more safely and efficiently, improving both operational effectiveness and firefighter safety. Upgraded equipment will reduce exposure to roadside hazards and ensure the department is equipped to meet the growing demands of complex emergency incidents.
