RECOMMENDATION
recommendation
Accept a Bureau of Justice Assistance Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24) Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant for $13,340 from the United States Department of Justice;

Approve the allocation of 10% of the total grant award for administrative costs to the County of Riverside as the Fiscal Agent; and

Amend the Fiscal Year 2024/25 Operating Budget to allocate and appropriate the grant funding.

PRIOR ACTION/VOTE
On June 6, 2023, the City Council approved Resolution No. 23-4671, adopting the City's Operating Budget for Fiscal Years 2023/24 and 2024/25 (Vote: 5-0).

BACKGROUND
In September 2024, the Police Department submitted an application for a grant from the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) to supplement the purchase of a gas mask fit machine. This is a Federal grant from the DOJ passed through the County of Riverside. The full award is for $13,340, and must be used to provide additional personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, training, technical assistance, and information systems for criminal justice or civil proceedings.

As the City is part of a joint group with the County of Riverside acting as the Fiscal Agent, the County will retain 10% ($1,334) of the total grant award for administrative costs associated with managing the grant.
