CITY COUNCIL GOAL

Coordinate and deliver responsive, effective community services.

BACKGROUND

The Murrieta Public Library recently applied for grant funds from the Public Library Association for the 2024-2025 Digital Workshop Incentive, supported by AT&T. Staff applied for funding in the amount of $10,000 to purchase a large smart board to be used in the Library’s learning lab space. Staff received notification that the grant was awarded in full.

The funds from this grant will primarily be used to purchase a smart board, which is a dynamic tool that will enhance how the Library delivers digital literacy workshops to the community. This technology will empower the Library to create interactive and engaging in-person learning experiences specifically tailored for target audiences, such as seniors, job seekers, and veterans.

The Library will also allocate funds from this grant to purchase incentives for giveaways and refreshments to create a welcoming and comfortable learning environment.

FISCAL IMPACT

Staff recommends that the City Council amendment the Fiscal Year 2024/25 Operating Budget to establish a $10,000 revenue and expenditure budget in the Library Grant Fund (357) as follows:

                     Revenue account 3570050-42221; and

                     Various expenditure accounts in 3570050.
