RECOMMENDATION

Approve the acceptance of Department of Justice Grant Award Number 15JCOPS-24-GG-02076-TECP;

Authorize the City Manager to modify the LDV Custom Specialty Vehicles contract, if needed, up to 10% and not to exceed $167,844.63; and

Amend the Fiscal Year 2024/25 Operating Budget by establishing an appropriation in a special revenue fund and amend Capital Improvement Plan Budget up to 10% or $167,844.63.

PRIOR ACTION/VOTE
On November 19, 2024, the City Council authorized the purchase of a Public Safety Mobile Command Center (Vote 5-0).

CITY COUNCIL GOAL
Provide a high level of innovative public safety.

BACKGROUND
The City of Murrieta (City) obtained $900,000 in federal grant funds through Congressman Darrell Issa's Community Project Funding Request. The Department of Justice administers the funding through the COPS Technology and Equipment Program (TEP). The City completed its application for federal funding on July 1, 2024, and was notified of the award on September 30, 2024. The City will use grant funding and other local funds to purchase and furnish a new mobile command center for use by the Murrieta Police Department.

The mobile command center's primary mission is to support emergency responders due to the number of public safety events held in the City of Murrieta, providing the team with a much-needed operations center to manage critical incidents more efficiently. The mobile command center would also be deployed during an Emergency Operations Center activation in the City of Murrieta if needed.
