PRIOR ACTION/VOTE
None.
CITY COUNCIL GOAL
Plan, program and create infrastructure development.
BACKGROUND
The City has received a request from a resident to install bike lanes on Adams Avenue between
Magnolia Street and Valor drive, to provide designated lanes for bicyclists.
Adams Avenue at its intersection with Magnolia Street and Valor Drive are controlled by all-way stops. This portion of Adams Avenue is built to its two-lane collector classification per the City’s General Plan Circulation Element, consisting of one travel lane in each direction. Currently, no bike lanes are striped along this segment and vehicles are able to park on both sides of the street. Bike lanes are currently striped south of Valor Drive. The speed limit is posted at 25 mph.
The proposed bike lanes are consistent with City’s General Plan Trails and Bikeways Map, where bike lanes are shown along Adams Avenue from Nutmeg Street to California Oaks Road. This proposed striping will remove parking along the west side of the road and the new configuration will consist of the following:
Northbound Direction:
• 11’ travel lane
• 2’ buffer
• 5’ bike lane
• 8’ parking
Southbound Direction:
• 11’ travel lane
• 5’ bike lane
Staff recommends the installation of bicycle lanes on Adams Avenue between Magnolia Street and Valor Drive.
FISCAL IMPACT
$15,500
