CITY COUNCIL GOAL
Maintain a high performing organization that values fiscal sustainability, transparency, accountability and organizational efficiency.
BACKGROUND
On March 7, 2022, the Information Technology Division (IT) requested to contract internet services with Frontier Communications (Frontier) for a new one gigabit connection to City Hall. The contract with Frontier added a second service provider, which allows the City of Murrieta to create internet redundancies between City Hall and the Police Station in case one provider experiences a service outage. The initial contract with Frontier totaled $42,840 over three (3) years.
Staff is requesting that the City Council ratify the agreement renewal for internet services with Frontier at $1,090/month for 36 months. The City Manager signed the agreement renewal to maintain the current pricing, which was set to increase on April 29, 2025. The total cost of the Frontier internet service for the 36-month term is $39,240. City Council ratification is needed to renew this agreement because the aggregate contract total exceeds the City Manager’s procurement authority. Staff also requests that the City Council authorize the City Manager to approve future amendments that may be needed during the 36-month term of this contract, up to $75,000.
FISCAL IMPACT
The total cost for this three-year agreement shall not exceed $39,240. Funding is available in the Fiscal Year 2024/25 Operation Budget Information Technology Fund (GL 726830-64480). The remaining contract years will be accounted for in the future biennial budget.
