BACKGROUND
Special Projects, Construction, and Capital Improvement Plan Update
Library Expansion:
• Construction design package was submitted for second round of plan check.
• Anticipate bid package to be published in May.
• Goal is to break ground on construction by July/August 2025.
Town Square Parking Lot & Monument:
• Parking Lot has been completed.
• Monument has been completed.
• Electrical: Waiting for meters to be installed by SCE.
• Video Boards: Successful test run on one board. Troubleshooting connection to second board.
• Traffic Signal Control Cabinet Move: Waiting for SCE meter to make movement.
• Landscape: 95% completed.
Tot Lot Replacement Project, Phase 1, Gametime Equipment Sites:
• Monte Vista: Construction completed and park is open to the public.
• Northstar: Wrapping up equipment install after experiencing issues. Anticipate park will open first half of May.
• Palomar: Construction completed and park is open.
• Oak Terrace: Construction completed and park is open.
Glen Arbor Dog Park:
• Construction to start 4/23/25.
• Notifications have been sent to properties adjacent to park.
Los Alamos Hills Sports Park EV Charging Station:
• Design and construction of 9 head charging station being completed and paid for by SCE Charge Ready Program.
• Preconstruction meeting held 4/9/25.
• SCE to install meter pedestal week of 4/21/25.
• All construction (to be done by SCE contractor) on the City side of meter to be done in September 2025.
• Once improvements made and power is supplied to switchgear, then City will have our contractor install the EV chargers on SCE constructed pads and run wiring.
• Anticipate the chargers will be online by November 2025.
Community Center Tennis Court Lighting:
• On hold until fixtures for Cal Oaks Tennis Courts are selected by lighting design consultant so consistent fixtures will be used at both locations.
• Anticipate installation of new lights by May 2025.
Firefighters Park Pickleball Courts:
• Final design has been signed by City Engineer & approved by Building and Safety.
• Decision on construction will take place once final costs for Alderwood are determined.
Alderwood Pickleball Courts:
• 95% plans in plan check.
• Once plans are completed, then Job Order Contracting (JOC) through a co-op purchasing will be used to develop a proposal for construction.
• Construction contract will need Council approval due to cost (June/July).
• Anticipate construction to begin by July/August 2025.
Cal Oaks Tennis Court Lighting:
• Job Order Contracting (JOC) proposal received.
• Taking construction contract to Council on 5/6/25.
• There is a 6-8 week lead time on fixtures. Anticipate construction to begin by July 2025 and take four weeks.
Cal Oaks Skate Park Improvements:
• Engaging design team for following improvements to make skate park more inviting: LED lights with dimming, remove black fencing, repair retaining walls and add course of CMU, install new fencing in some sections, install graffiti resistant paint to vertical wall surfaces.
• The goal is to have improvement plans done by fall 2025.
Parks and Recreation Master Plan Update and Trails Master Plan Update
• A special meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission was held on April 17, 2025. Staff presented the commission final revisions of Parks and Recreation Master Plan Update and the Trails Master Plan Update. The commission voted unanimously to approve the final revisions to the Parks and Recreation Master Plan Update and the Trails Master Plan Update and recommend adoption by City Council.
• Staff are preparing to present the Master Plans to the Planning Commission at the May 14, 2025 Planning Commission meeting.
Parks Maintenance - Repairs, Inspections, Miscellaneous
• Maintenance staff have begun replacing park rules signs that include the e-conveyance ordinance.
• CSD staff have requested a purchase order to have the pickleball courts at B St Station resurfaced.
• Drinking fountains at Los Alamos Hills Sports Park and Shady Maple Park have been repaired.
• Broken fences have been repaired at the Equestrian Park and Mira Mosa Park.
• The Cal Oaks Sports Park pool was drained of the water that collected from the last rains.
• Graffiti was removed from the Old School House, the tennis court at the Community Center, and from the men’s restroom at Cal Oaks Sports Park.
• New fencing was installed at the Equestrian Park as well as at Pioneer Park.
