BACKGROUND
Special Events
• On Saturday and Sunday, April 5 and April 6, 2025, the 20th Tour de Murrieta rolled into town. Cyclists from all over the world enjoyed the two day sanctioned USA Cycling event.
• On Saturday, April 19, 2025, the City of Murrieta held the Eggstravaganza and Rec Expo at Town Square Park for approximately 3,000 attendees. There were food vendors, recreation vendors, and photos with the Easter Bunny along with egg hunts for the kids! A great time was had by all.

Senior Center
• On Tuesday, March 4, a local nursing student, April Koopman hosted a talk on how to detect signs of a stroke.
• On Wednesday, March 5, Navy Federal Credit Union hosted a fraud prevention talk for the seniors.
• On Thursday, March 6, the Senior Center continued its series on Self-Defense and Awareness. This class is free for the seniors and typically sees an average of 20 seniors attending on a regular basis.
• The VA has been having a table set in the lobby on the second Thursday of the month. This is a time for seniors who need assistance with their Veterans Benefits.
• On Monday, March 17, the Senior Center had a green party during lunch with green treats, green punch, and prizes that were all lucky or green themed. The Senior Center also hosted St. Patrick’s Day trivia for the seniors to test their skills.
• Feeding America continues to grow and is held on the fourth Tuesday of the month from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. They continue to serve over 300 in the community.
• Lynn’s craft class took place on Wednesday, April 26. Fourteen seniors decorated glass bottles with dried flowers. The seniors again thoroughly enjoyed this craft, and it is a chance to visit with friends.
• On Thursday, March 27, the Senior Center held its monthly grief support workshop for seniors dealing with loss, sponsored by Mission Health Care.
• On Wednesday, April 9, the Senior Center held a FREE Easter craft with the seniors. Sixteen seniors painted wooden eggs.
• On Monday, April 14, AARP tax services were completed. They were able to assist over 272 participants.
• On Thursday, April 17, the Senior Center held an Easter scavenger hunt for the seniors. They were given six clues and riddles to solve throughout the center. At the end, each participant was awarded a gold egg.
Recreation Classes
• March had 462 participants attend classes. For April, 512 participants have registered to date.
Alternative Recreation Program
• On Friday, March 14, 47 members participated in a tribute to St. Patrick’s Day event “Frolic of Fiddles.” Participants dressed in green and danced while the DJ played music. Drinks and snacks were provided.
• On Friday, March 28, 41 participants had a space themed event, “Space Odyssey Social.” The participants took part in a luminaire craft project and danced. There was a large planet puzzle they could put together, some even put the puzzle together upside down (no picture) which was quite fun. Staff handed out planet stress balls. Drinks and snacks were provided.
• On Friday, April 11, 38 participants including caregivers, attended a Lake Elsinore Storm game. Everyone met onsite at Storm Stadium and sat together. Participants received a $5 food voucher and a voucher for a future game. Everything went well and everyone enjoyed the game. Sadly, the visiting Modesto Nuts edged out the home Storm team by a score of 13-9.
• On Friday, April 25, ARP had its Easter get together, “Partying with My Peeps.” Participants hunted for eggs and there was a craft project. Snacks and drinks were provided.
Youth Center
• The current school year has 308 participants enrolled. The center is averaging approximately 110 daily check-ins from youth members.
• The 2025/2026 school year registration is open with program fees remaining affordable at $31.29 for the school year.
• The center is currently offering eight active and engaging clubs, all running successfully.
• Regular afterschool hours are Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., with early release Wednesdays from 1:45 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
• Expanded morning hours have been added this school year, including before-school programming from 7 a.m. to 8:45 a.m., included with registration.
Youth Alternative Recreation Program
• This newly launched program serves children ages 5-12 with intellectual and developmental disorders, fostering inclusion, socialization, and peer engagement through themed activities, crafts, games, and more.
• The first event was held on March 14, 2025. Although four participants registered, just one family attended.
• The April event had five registered attendees join and they all enjoyed the event.
• The next event will take place on Friday, May 9, 2025, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Murrieta Youth Center.
• Participation Fee is $3.00 per child.
• Staff is excited to continue building this inclusive and engaging program for our Community.
Adult Sports
• Adult Coed Kickball league is now in its 3rd week of games.
o The league had a Western Themed Night on Friday, April 18.
• Adult Men’s Soccer was cancelled due to low registrations.
• Adult Coed Softball league is now in the last week of playoffs.
Spring Camp
• Spring Camp was held from Monday, March 31 through Friday, April 4, and welcomed participants from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Murrieta Youth Center.
• The camp was open to children ages 5-12, with a weekly fee of $120.
• There was a total of 39 participants registered.
Ranger Rap
• On Saturday, March 29, the Park Rangers along with CSD staff held the first Ranger Rap of 2025. Over 40 children came to Copper Canyon Park to meet with the Park Rangers and learn about reptiles. The children painted a snake craft, had snacks, received a take home goodie bag, and got hands-on experience with some creepy crawly creatures. It was great fun had by all.
Allocations
• The spring allocation schedule for Murrieta youth sport leagues is finalized and staff has posted it on the City website.
Aquatics
• Registration for summer swimming classes is now live.
