Coordinate and deliver responsive, effective community services.

 

BACKGROUND

Special Projects, Construction, and Capital Improvement Plan Update

 

Military Banner Program

                     The application deadline has closed for 2026 banners.

                     44 applications were received, 24 active-duty, 20 veterans.

                     New banners will be installed in May, prior to Memorial Day.

                     Active-duty banners will be installed downtown.

                     Veteran banners will be installed in Town Square Park.

                     31 banners will be retired in May.

                     A banner retirement ceremony will take place in July at Town Square Park Amphitheater.

 

Library Expansion

                     Rain has caused significant delays, currently 30 days behind.

                     Current projected completion date: November 2026.

                     Construction Status:

o                     Foundation footings poured.

o                     Foundation pour scheduled for first half of March.

                     Weekly progress meetings take place at the library each Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

                     Contract Change Orders:

o                     Replacement of existing, outdated fire alarm system APPROVED.

o                     Under Consideration

§                     Painting of existing exterior.

§                     Correction of front sidewalk.

§                     Replacement of fabric coated acoustic wall panels (lower ones in reach only) in existing children’s space with easier to maintain gypsum board.

 

Alderwood Pickleball Courts

                     Construction is in progress with an expected completion and ribbon cutting in spring 2026.

                     Striping to take place across all courts from March 16-27. Courts will be closed for two weeks.

 

Cal Oaks Tennis Court Lighting

                     Project is complete.

                     Parks Maintenance Supervisor Josh Havens is to redesign the reservation signs on the courts so that the public understands that they need to make a reservation to turn on the lights with a QR code that takes them to the reservation page.

 

Sports Field Synthetic Turf Replacements

                     Turf renovation at the Los Alamos Hills Sports Park soccer field was completed on January 29, 2026.

                     Construction to start on the Torrey Pines Park baseball field beginning March 2 and is expected to be completed in late April of 2026.

 

Alderwood Park Tech Improvements

                     Staff are waiting for a new utility cabinet to be installed.

                     Alarm and camera system has been installed.

 

Flock Cameras

                     Two PTZ cameras are on back order.

                     Maintenance needs to run electrical to the poles that do not have solar.

                     One post needs to be installed.

                     Staff training to be in March.

 

 

Parks Maintenance - Repairs, Inspections, Miscellaneous

                     Maintenance staff have installed lighting in the Equestrian Park archery area.

                     Murrieta Mesa High School senate team is scheduled to have a painting project at the Equestrian Park on March 9 where they will be painting the fence.

                     Maintenance staff are continuing to find solutions for the ground squirrel problem at Hunt Park and the Youth Center yard.

                     A cricket pitch has been completed in the outfield of the ball field at Mapleton Park.
