BACKGROUND
Memorial Day Observance
• On Monday, May 27, 2024, the City of Murrieta held its annual Memorial Day Observance Ceremony at 8:00 a.m. at the Murrieta Veterans Memorial in Town Square Park. A few hundred attendees came to pay tribute to the fallen. The Murrieta Mesa High School JROTC presented the colors, Soli and Ava Falah sang the National Anthem, and Murrieta PF Chaplain Chris Deknatel provided the invocation. In addition to Mayor Stone, keynote speaker Dustin Nigg gave a moving address about what Memorial Day meant to him. To close the ceremony, Murrieta City Council, and Dustin Nigg and his daughters, read the names of the fallen 132 men and women from Riverside and San Bernardino Counties who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving this nation.
Murrieta Through Time
• Following the Memorial Day Observance Ceremony, the Rotary Club of Murrieta had a ribbon cutting ceremony for their very long-awaited Murrieta Through Time Project. The project took 18 years but was very much worth the wait. The project consists of eight granite panels telling the story of how the City came to be. This huge project shows off the dedication, perseverance and rich history of Murrieta and its founding fathers.
