CITY COUNCIL GOAL
Coordinate and deliver responsive, effective community services.
BACKGROUND
The Murrieta Public Library strives to maintain a welcoming and safe environment for all patrons and staff. To ensure this, Library staff has undertaken a comprehensive review of the existing Code of Conduct and identified areas requiring updates to reflect current Library operations, emerging community needs, and best practices in public library management.
The proposed revisions aim to clarify expectations for patron behavior, ensure consistency in enforcement, and align with City policies and legal considerations. Library staff engaged in a thorough review process, incorporating feedback from stakeholders and examining policies from comparable library systems. The updates have been reviewed by the City Attorney's office to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
Key updates in the revised Code of Conduct include:
• Clear definitions of acceptable and unacceptable behaviors within Library premises.
• Adjustments to address modern library usage trends, including digital and technology-related conduct.
• Enhanced language to support inclusivity and accessibility for all community members.
• Streamlined enforcement procedures for improved consistency and fairness.
